Abstract
Nickel hydroxide, as a component of various electrochemical devices, is one of the intensively studied substances [1]. The options for its obtaining and processing are varied since they allow varying its properties in a wide range [2]. This interest is primarily due to the wide range of its applications. The use of nickel hydroxide compounds is determined by the unique properties of the latter. The first of them is the possibility of carrying out a reversible electrochemical reaction between nickel hydroxide and nickel oxyhydroxide (Ni(OH)2↔NiOOH). The second one indicates the different properties of each of the substances: color, conductivity, chemical behavior. For example, Ni(OH)2 is light green but in thin films, it is a transparent substance. In turn, NiOOH is black with metallic luster though in thin films it is a dark brown substance. The color difference of the Ni(OH)2↔NiOOH pair has determined it as a promising electrochromic substance for the so-called Smart Windows with the ability to change light transmission [3, 4].
