Abstract
Taking toluene, chlorosulfonic acid and phosphoryl chloride as raw materials, p-toluenesulfonyl was synthesized. The effects of amount of chlorosulfonic acid, phosphoryl chloride, and reaction temperature on the yield of p-toluenesulfonyl chloride were investigated. The optimal reaction condition was obtained by the catalyst selection experiments and the orthogonal test. The ammonium chloride was chosen as the suitable catalyst and the optimum molar ratio of toluene, chlorosulfonic acid, phosphoryl chloride and ammonium chloride was found to be 1,1.3,0.6 and 0.1. Under the optimal reaction condition, the yield and pure yield of toluenesulfonyl chloride are up to 98.85% and 97.86% respectively. The yield of p-toluenesulfonyl chloride and o-toluenesulfonyl chloride achieve 85.41% and 12.45% respectively. Acidic waste fluid is dropped off 70% or more. The process is successful for reducing the cost and the environmental protection.
