Abstract
Hexadecyl methacrylate was synthesized from methylacrylic acid and hexadecanol by direct-esterification. The influence of reaction conditions such as the molar ratio of raw material, quantity of catalyst, reaction temperature, reaction time and quantity of inhibitor were studied and the conversion of product over 95% is obtained under the following optimum reaction conditions: the molar ratio is 1.3, the quantity of catalyst and inhibitor are 10% and 0.8%, the reaction temperature and time are 145 ℃ and 5 h. The strong acidic resins have the following excellence comparison to the strong acid: higher yield and purity, less waste liquid, no caustic to the equipments. The resin has good activity even if reused many times.
