Abstract
SIR-8514, (2-Chloro- N -[[[4-(trifluoromethoxy) phenyl] amino]carbonyl]benzamide) and SIR-6874 (2-Chloro- N -[[[3,5-dichloro-4-nitrophenoxy) phenyl]amino]carbonyl]benzamide) are highly effective inhibitors of mosquito development in the laboratory and field. SIR-8514 offers potential for controlling larval populations of Aedes nigromaculis (Ludlow) and A. melanimon Dyar at rates as low as 1.8–3.6 g AI/ha. Some nontarget organism populations, especially cladocerans, also are suppressed by the treatments, but recoveries occur and treatments did not result in damages greater than those following applications of classical insecticides.
