Abstract
Laboratory tests are described in which 4 formamidines were tested as synergists for the synthetic pyrethroid insecticides permethrin, fenvalerate, and decamethrin against larvae of the boll worm, Heliothis zea (Boddie) and the tobacco budworm, H. virescens (F.). The most active synergists were chlordimefonn and Upjohn 42662 (1,1,1-trichloro- N -(((4-chloro-2-methylphenyl)imino)methyl- N -methylmethanesulfenamide). They increased toxicity of permethrin and fenvalerate by 2–15 times against both Heliothis spp. Much lower levels of synergism were observed with decamethrin. Similar tests with Campoletis sonorensis (Carlson), a parasite of the tobacco budworm, showed less synergism against the parasite than against the pest.
