Abstract
1,4-Phenylene-bis (5-aminobenzoxazole) was synthesized from 2,4-diaminophenol dihydrochloride and terephthalic acid with reductive agent SnCl2 added to suppress the oxidation of 2,4-diaminophenol dihydrochloride and to enhance the yield of 1,4-phenylene-bis (5-aminobenzoxazole). Characterization of compound was accomplished by melt point, element analysis, FT-IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectra. Stokes shift between the excitation and emission spectra of fluorescence spectra of compound in the solid state shows that the planar molecules have closely packed π-conjugated structures. This might be interesting for application of this compound as a monomer for high performance aromatic heterocycle polymer.
