Abstract
2-(2-chloroethoxy) acetic acid is synthesized by oxidation of 2-(2-chloroethoxy) ethanol. The oxidation effect of four oxidants, nitric acid, Jones reagent, hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite are compared and nitric acid is preferred. The mixture of 2-(2-chloroethoxy) ethanol and thick nitric acid in water are stirred at 35~40 ℃ for 24 h to give 2-(2-chloroethoxy) acetic acid in 89% yield, the product is characterized by MS and 1HNMR. This process using nitric acid as oxidant is simple with lower cost, higher yield and can be applicated in industry.
