Abstract
2,3,5-Trimethylhydroquinone is an intermediate product in the production of vitamin E. The physiological action of vitamin E involves its participation in redox processes, wherein it protects lipid membranes from oxidation. Vitamin E is a blood coagulant, and influences the reproductive function. The absence of vitamin E in the organism leads to muscle distrophy. It is successfully used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and of several inflammatory manifestations. In recent years, vitamin E has acquired increasing importance in animal husbandry. Natural sources of vitamin E are vegetable oils, wheat seeds, etc.
