Abstract
A detailed outline of the experimental procedures for the synthesis of 2,6-naphthyridine and 4-methyl-2,6-naphthyridine is given. Cyclization of 2-(4-cyano-3-pyridyl)propionitrile with anhydrous hydrogen bromide lead to 3-amino-4-methyl-2,6-naphthyridine which was transformed into 4-methyl-2,6-naphthyridine in a series of reactions. The u.v. spectra of 2,6- and 4-methyl-2,6-naphthyridine and their amino and halogen derivatives were recorded.
