Abstract
(3,4-Dimethoxyphenyl) acetic acid was synthesized by using 3,4-Dimethoxybenzaldehyde as the starting material.Steps included Knoevenagel reaction,potassium borohydride reduction and oxidation under acidic environment.The optimum conditions of the synthesis were got by discussing the reaction mechanism.The purity of the compound was analyzed to be 62.6 % and its structure was confirmed by IR and NMR method.There were many advantages of the synthesis,for the starting material can be easily gained and operation of the reactions was simple and the yield was quite good and avoidance of extremely poisonous reagents.There for,the synthesis could be more fit for industrial production.
