Abstract
Allyl hexanoate was synthesized from hexanoic acid with allyl alcohol using activated carbon supported SnCl4 ·5H2O(SnCl4· 5H2O/C) as catalyst without solvent under microwave irradiation. Under the optimum reaction conditions (SnCl4·5H2O/C(loaded amount 20%)0.1g, hexanoic acid 1 mL, allyl alcohol 2 mL, microwave power 600W, microwave irradiation time 8 min), the yield of ester was 85.5%. The product was characterized by IR. The catalyst could also be used to catalyze esterification of alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol and n-pentyl alcohol with hexoic acid.
