Abstract
4-Methoxy-3-nitrobenzoic anhydride and 2-methoxy-4-nitrobenzoic anhydride were synthesized from the corresponding carboxylic acid and acetic anhydride. The condensation of melamine with methoxy-nitrobenzoic anhydrides in dioxane under reflux gave N- (4-methoxy-3-nitrobenzoyl) melamine (1) and its 2-methoxy-4 nitro isomer (2).Upon reduction with iron and acetic acid, (1) and (2) gave the corresponding amino derivatives ((3) and (4)).Acid dyes were synthesized using (3) and (4) as diazo components and the dyeingabilities of their methylol compounds for cotton and rayon were investigated.
