Abstract
Eleven substituted N-benzylanilines were synthesized. Their anti-chlamydial activity was studied. A water-soluble hydrochloride was prepared from one of the lead compounds, the 2-diethylaminoethyl ester of 4-(2-hydroxybenzylamino)benzoic acid; possessed low cytotoxicity and high anti-chlamydial activity; and could be considered a promising agent for treating chlamydial infections.
