Abstract
Butyl sorbate was synthesized by sorbic acid and butanol over sodium bisulfate catalyst.Influence of reaction condition on the yield of butyl sorbate was investigated. The optimum reaction conditions were as follow:The sorbic acid to butanol molar ratio was 1∶4;the dosage of sodium bisulfate was equal to 6% by weight of sorbic acid;the reaction temperature was 120 ℃;and the time for reflux and water separation was 4.0 h.Under the optimum reaction conditions the butyl sorbate yield was over 90%.The experimental results indicated that sodium bisulfate exhibited higher catalytic activity, and could be used repeatedly with insignificant environmental pollution.
