Synthesis and Reactivity in Inorganic and Metal-organic Chemistry
Abstract
Abstract 3-Methyl-1-penten-3-oxy derivatives of some tri-, tetra- and penta-valent elements having the general formula M[OC(C2H5)(CH3)CH=CH2]x (where, M = Al, x = 3; M = Ge, Ti and Zr, x = 4; M = Ta, x = 5) and BuxSn [OC(C2H5)(CH3)CH=CH2]4-x (where, x = 1, 2 and 3) have been synthesized using alcohol interchange reactions. Germanium and titanium derivatives have also been prepared from their corresponding chlorides. The compounds are colourless, volatile liquids or solids, soluble in common organic solvents. They have been characterized by elemental analyses, molecular weight determinations and ir and pmr spectral studies. Except for the aluminium derivative which shows molecular association (dimeric), the others are monomeric in nature.
