Abstract
Benzoyl-1-(pyrazin-2-ylcarbonyl)-thiosemicarbazide was synthesised by reacting pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid hydrazide with benzoylisothiocyanate in the presence of diethyl ether. Antibacterial activity was tested against Gram-positive and Gram-negative strains and antifungal action was examined towards Candida spp. The results showed that antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria expressed as minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranged from 25 to 100 μg/mL and from 100 to 200 μg/mL, respectively. The compound exhibited also antifungal potency with MIC ranged between 50 and 200 μg/mL.
