Abstract
Abstract Starting from 1-, 2-, 3-, 7- and 8-aminofluoranthene, the five chloro-, the five bromo-, the five cyano-, the five formyl and the five methylfluoranthenes were prepared. These twenty-five derivatives of fluoranthene were characterized by means of NMR, ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. the synthetic accessibility of these compounds and the knowledge of their spectral properties enables their detection in the environment and the study of their genotoxicity. It also creates possibilities for studying relations between genotoxic activity and the position and nature of substituents in fluoranthene.
