Abstract
Abstract The reaction of a new ligand based on 4-amino-3-methyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole-5(4H)-thione (L), namely 5,5′-(1,3-phenylenebis(methylene))bis(sulfanediyl)bis(3-methyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-amine) (L1), with palladium(II) chloride in a molar ratio of 2:1 in methanol/acetonitrile under reflux conditions led to the complex [Pd(L1)2]Cl2·4CH3CN (1). Complex 1 has been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry as well as single crystal X-ray diffraction. Luminescence measurements have also been carried out. Solventless thermolysis of complex 1 at 300, 500, 700 and 800 °C in air led to the formation of Pd(0)-, Pd–PdO-, PdO- and Pd–PdO-nanostructures, respectively. The same process under a N2 atmosphere produced Pd(0) nanoparticles at 800 °C. The resulting compounds were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
