Abstract
Sodium 2-hydroxy-3-chloro propanesulfate was synthesized from epichlorohydrin and sodium bisulfite. The effect of molar ratio of sodium bisulfite to epichlorohydrin, reaction temperature and reaction time on product yield was investigated. The optimized reaction conditions were found to be the molar ratio of sodium bisulfite to epichlorohydrin is 1.15∶1 and that of sodium sulfite to sodium bisulfite is 0.20∶ 0.62,where the highest product yield is 70.8%. Melting point of the product is 253—254 ℃. The structure of the product was verified by IR spectrum, nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectrometry.
