Abstract
Abstract Bio-diesel-based 2-(2-alkyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethanol derivatives (A-DIEs) were prepared as green corrosion inhibitors to investigate their corrosion inhibition behavior. We also prepared the A-DIEs using petroleum-based chemical products as control. It was found that when the A-DIEs concentration was over 100 ppm, bio-diesel-based A-DIEs acted as effective corrosion inhibitors. It was also observed that the presence of double bonds and functional groups in the A-DIE chains and the sufficiently long chain length enhanced the attachments of A-DIEs on the metal surface, leading to high inhibition efficiency. The present work provided very promising results in the preparation of green corrosion inhibitors.
