Abstract
(2.2.2-Cryptand)(nitrato-O,O')strontium nitrate monohydrate, [Sr(NO 3 )(Crypt-222)] + . NO - 3 .H 2 O (I), was prepared and studied by X-ray diffraction. The crystals are orthorhombic, space group Pbca, a = 14.250 A, b = 14.167 A, c = 26.362 A, Z = 8. The structure was solved by the direct method and refined by full-matrix least-squares calculations in the anisotropic approximation to R = 0.073 for 4157 reflections (CAD4 automated diffractometer, λMMOK α radiation). In the [Sr(NO 3 )(Crypt-222)]+ host-guest complex cation, the Sr atom occurs in the 2.2.2-cryptand cavity and is coordinated by all of the eight heteroatoms (60 + 2N) of the cryptand ligand and by two O atoms of the nitrato ligand. The Sr 2 + coordination polyhedron (C.N. 10) is a highly distorted hexagonal bipyramid whose base is formed by four O atoms and two N atoms of the cryptand and whose two split vertices are at two atoms of the nitrato ligand and two O atoms of the cryptand ligand. In crystal I, the disordered NO - 3 anion and the hydration water molecule are hydrogen-bonded.
