Abstract
Abstract Three new strontium β-diketonate complexes have been synthesised and structurally characterised. The reaction between strontium metal and 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione (tmhdH) in isopropanol (iPrOH) solvent yields the adduct [Sr(tmhd)2(iPrOH)4] (1). The reaction between 1 and N,N-dimethylaminoethanol (dmaeH) results in the displacement of iPrOH ligands to give [Sr2(tmhd)4(dmaeH)2(μ2-dmaeH)2] (2). The unadducted complex [Sr4(tmod)8] (3), (tmod=2,2,7-trimethyloctane-3,5-dionate) has also been synthesised from the reaction between Sr metal and tmodH in iPrOH solvent. Single crystal X-ray diffraction shows that 1 is mononuclear, containing an eight-coordinate Sr atom with bidentate/chelating tmhd groups and four adducting iPrOH molecules in the trans configuration. Complex 2 comprises two [Sr(tmhd)2(dmaeH)2] units, linked by bridging dmaeH ligands to form a binuclear complex with two eight-coordinate Sr atoms. Complex 3 is tetranuclear and contains two six-coordinate, and two eight-coordinate Sr atoms, with the tmod ligands displaying three different modes of coordination.
