Abstract
The synthesis of five 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines (2), which were either randomly labelled (1,1,3,3,4,4-2H6,2b) or regioselectively labelled (1,1-2H2,2c; 3,3-2H2, 2d; 4,4-2H2, 2e) from isoquinoline (4), indan-2-one (7), and phenylacetonitrile (11) is described. These deuterated bases were used in the preparation of labelled analogues of the antihypertensive agent debrisoquine.
