Abstract
Tung oil was used as raw material to synthesize eleostearic acid.As-synthesized eleostearic acid was allowed to react with diethylenetriamine, and relevant synthesized product was finally allowed to react with methyl methacrylate to yield eleostearic acid imidazoline derivative. The molecular structure of the synthesized derivative was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, and its corrosion inhibition performance for N80 steel in HCl solution was investigated based on weight loss test and potentiodynamic polarization curve measurement. It was found that as-synthesized eleostearic acid imidazoline derivative was able to effectively inhibit the corrosion of N80 steel in HCl solution, and it was a kind of mixed type inhibitor with capability to retard the cathodic reaction of N80 steel. Moreover, the corrosion rate of N80 steel increased with increased concentration of as-synthesized eleostearic acid imidazoline deri-vative as well as with decreased temperature and concentration of corrosive medium HCl,while the corrosion inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor increased therewith.
