Abstract
Glutamate 1-semialdehyde diethyl acetal was synthesised and its structure confirmed by mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Acid hydrolysis of this substance gave glutamate 1-semialdehyde, the substrate for the enzyme glutamate 1-semialdehyde aminotransferase. It is confirmed that glutamate 1-semialdehyde is the immediate precursor of δ-aminolevulinate in the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway.
