Abstract
A number of 3-pyrrolin-2-one compounds were synthesized and their herbicidal activities were evaluated. Among them 1-[[(1-(benzothiazol-2-yl)-1-methyl]ethyl]-4-methyl-3-phenyl-3-pyrrolin-2-one was found to exhibit high activity to Lindernia pyxidaria, Rotala indica, Elatine triandra, and especially to Echinochloa oryzicola. It also exhibited moderate activity to Monochoria vagina/is, Sagittaria pygmaea and Cyperus serotinus. It was found that the residual effect to Echinochloa oryzicola (barnyardgrass) lasted very long compared to the existing herbicides.
