Abstract
Abstract The current project reports the synthesis and characterization of a previously known Schiff base compound, 4-bromo-2-(((2′-chloro-4′-nitrophenyl)imino)methyl)phenol (SBA), through the condensation reaction of 2-chloro-4-nitroaniline and 5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde, in a solvent-free mechanochemical green grinding method. It was obtained as bright red crystals. Its structure was elucidated based on XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) and IR, MS and NMR spectroscopy. The crystal structure was found to be monoclinic. Hirshfeld surfaces analysis has also been conducted to elucidate the intermolecular interactions. The base showed considerable urease inhibitory activity with IC50 (μg/mL) 30.65 as compared to 11.14 of the standard thiourea. The compound showed minimal free radical scavenging activity (EC50 (μg/mL) 1127). In conclusion, grinding is a viable method for the synthesis of this Schiff base. It can find its application as a potential urease inhibitor in the field of medicine and agriculture.
