Abstract
Carbobenzoxyleucyl(S-benzyl)cysteinylglycylseryl(im-benzyl)histidylleucylvaline methyl ester, a derivative of the heptapeptide (B_(6-12)) fragment of the B-chain of insulin, has been prepared by condensing carbobenzoxyleucyl(S-benzyl)cysteinylglycine with seryl(im-benzyl)histidylleucylvaline methyl ester by the carbodiimide method. The same carbobenzoxy heptapeptide ester has also been obtained by coupling carbobenzoxyleucyl(S-benzyl)cysteinylglycylserine azide with (im-benzyl)histidylleucylvaline methyl ester. The results from the enzymic digestion by leucine aminopeptidase of the heptapeptide ester and its constituents, the S-benzylated tripeptide and the imidazole-benzylated tetrapeptide, showed that no racemized amino acids were present in these peptides.
