Abstract
1. 1-(Chloromethyl)-1-methylsilacyclopentane was synthesized from dichloro(chloromethyl)methylsilane and tetramethylene bis(magnesium bromide). 2. 1-(Chloromethyl)-1-methylsilacyclopentane is active at the chlorine in nucieophilic-substitution reactions and can serve as the starting substance for the synthesis of silacyclopentanes having functional groups in the methyl group. 3. Under the action of aluminum chloride 1-(chloromethyl)-1-methylsilacyclopentane is converted into 1-chloro-1-memylsilacyclohexane. This is the first recorded case of the enlargement of a heterocycle containing a silicon atom in the ring.
