Abstract
A new series of methyl α-D-glucopyranoside (1) and methyl 4,6-O-cyclohexylidene-α-D-glucopyranoside (1A) were synthesized by direct acylation method furnished 2,3-di-O- and 2,3,4-tri-O- acyl derivatives (2–12) in excellent yield. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds have been confi rmed on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral studies. The synthesized title compounds were evaluated for in vitro antibacterial screening studies against a number of human pathogens. The same series of compounds were examined for in vitro antifungal activity against some fungal phytopathogens. Some of the tested D-glucose derivatives exhibited promising antibacterial and antifungal activity.
