Abstract
Abstract The electrooxidation of 5-amino 1-naphthol (5-NH 2 1-NAP) in acidic aqueous and organic media leads to polymer film on glassy carbon and Pt electrodes. Poly(5-NH 2 1-NAP) films show reversible, well-defined redox systems in both acidic organic and aqueous solutions. Films prepared in aqueous medium are conducting. The in situ infrared study during film growth and XPS analysis indicate that the electropolymerization occurs via the -NH 2 groups while the -OH groups are not concerned. To confirm this finding, the study of the electrochemical oxidation of 5-methoxy 1-naphthylamine has been performed. The same conclusion can be formulated from the cyclic voltammograms of film growth and film electroactivity of the two monomers.
