Abstract
The application and synthesis of thioglycolic acid were reviewed. Thioglycolic acid was synthesized by sodium disulfide method. In the experiment, sodium disulfide was firstly prepared from sodium sulfide and sulfur, and then (SCH 2COONa) 2 was synthesized with ClCH 2COONa and sodium disulfide, in the last step, sodium sulfide aqueous solution, as a kind of reducer, was used to reduce (SCH 2COONa) 2. The effects of reaction temperature, reactant ratio, reaction time, pH value etc., were investigated through experiments. The results showed that the conversion ratio of thioglycolic could reach about 96% under reaction temperature 35℃ and pH value 7.5 for 20 minutes, with a molar reactant ratio of 1.2∶1.44∶1.0(Na 2S∶S∶ClCH 2COONa).
