Abstract
Triorganoantimony(V) compounds Que(0H)(02SbPh3.H20) (a) and Que(0 2SbPh3.H20)(0SbPh 3Cl) (b) have been synthetized by the reaction of Ph 3SbCl 2 with Quercetin, Que(OH)3, in toluene in the presence of Et3N. The characterization of these compounds by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, conductance measurement, infrared and NMR spectroscopies leads to the conclusion that: compound (a) contains a six-coordinated antimony atoms linked to Que(OH)3 through two adjacent phenolate groups in the exocyclic phenyl ring; compound (b) is a binuclear antimony compound, that contains six-coordinated antimony atoms linked to the carbonyl phenolate oxygens of the chromophore and by two adjacent phenolate groups in the exocyclic ring. A comparison between these derivatives suggests that organoantimony(V) prefers the formation of five than six membered rings.
