Abstract
URING THE search for a nonflammable D anesthetic gas with a biologic potency between nitrous oxide and cyclopropane, 1,1, 1 ,2 tetrafluoro 2 bromoethane (teflurane) was examined.l.2 This agent was first administered to dogs in 1957. It was found to be a satisfactory anesthetic agent, but of higher biologic potency than was sought at the time of initial screening.3 Subsequent review of its performance in the dog was sufficiently encouraging to allow the extension of its use to man in 1960,4-6 and 108 clinical anesthesias were administered.
