Abstract
The results of a urea hydrolysis study conducted at 2 and 12 °C using a silt soil indicated that there was no effect of the nitrification inhibitors ATC (4-amino-1,2,4-triazole) and N-Serve [2-chloro-6-(trichloromethyl) pyridine] on urea hydrolysis at 2 or 20 times the recommended application rate. The rate of hydrolysis at 2 °C was about half that at 12 °C, suggesting that leaching of urea might occur following its application to a cold soil. However, use of nitrification inhibitors should not increase leaching of urea.
