Abstract
Abstract The formation of a sodium 7-(hydroxyimino)-8-oxo-quinoline-5-sulphonate complex with dioxouranium(VI) was analysed using potentiometric and spectrophotometric titration data and characterized by determination of the formation constant, log β 102 = 8.94 (in 0.1 M NaClO 4 ). With the information obtained from the titrations, the solid bis-complex was synthesized for thermal analysis. The thermal decomposition of the ligand and bis-complex was studied using thermogravimetric, differential thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric measurements in dynamic air and nitrogen. The decompositions were then simulated in the vacuum conditions of a mass spectrometer to analyse the evolved gases by the pyrolysis-mass spectrometry technique.
