Abstract
The experimental excess functions of mixtures of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (a large globular molecule) with benzene, carbon tetrachloride, and cyclopentane, and of mixtures of cyclopentane and cyclo-octane are compared with some theoretical predictions. It is found that the hard-sphere equation for a mixture is superior to either the one-fluid or two-fluid van der Waals prescription for the van der Waals b term. Otherwise there is little to choose among the theories considered.
