Abstract
Abstract Using thiomorpholin-3-one (tm) as ligand, the complexes [M(CO)5tm] (where M = Cr, Mo, W) were prepared. They are crystalline yellow, diamagnetic and are non-electrolytes. The bonding of the ligand through the sulphur atom, suggested by i.r. data, was confirmed by the X-ray crystal structure analysis of [W(CO)5tm], which showed that the compound has a slightly distorted octahedral symmetry. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c with four molecules in a unit cell of dimensions a = 16.97(3), b = 6.43(2), c = 11.84(3) A; β = 110.7(4)°. The structure was solved from diffractometer data by Patterson and Fourier methods and refined by full matrix least squares methods to R = 0.070 for 1899 observed reflections.
