Abstract
SUMMARY The Placental transfer of alcuronium has been examined in nineteen patients with a semiquantitative bio-assay technique. Alcuronium was detected in small quantities in the cord blood of twelve infants delivered by Caesarean section. The foetal plasma concentration of alcuronium appears to be independent of the maternal plasma concentration at delivery but is related to the rate at which the drug has been injected. No clinical effect of the relaxant on the foetus has been observed.
