Abstract
The biotransformation of (+)-isopinocampheol and (−)-isopinocampheol and (6R)-(−)-caryophyllene oxide was carried out by Aspergillus niger TBUYN-2. A. niger converted (+)-isopinocampheol to give (+)-5-hydroxyisopinocampheol and (+)-1-hydroxyisopinocampheol. On the other hand, (−)-isopinocampheol was converted to (−)-5-hydroxyisopinocampheol, (−)-1-hydroxyisopinocampheol and (+)-2-hydroxyisopinocampheol. In the case of (6R)-(−)-caryophyllene oxide, (−)-caryophyllene-12-oic acid and (−)-caryophyllene-6,7,12-triol were obtained as new compounds. Clovandiol, which is a component of Salvia canariensis, was also obtained from (6R)-(−)-caryophyllene oxide following incubation for 4 days with shaking in medium without microorganisms.
