Abstract
The intravenous and oral forms of orciprenaline was used in the treatment of patients with severe sinus bradycardia, high grade atrio -ventricular block or the sick sinus syndrome. Intravenous orciprenaline can be used to tide patients over a period of severe bradyarrhythmia, or prior to cardiac pacing. One patient developed ventricular tachycardia following an intravenous bolus of orciprenaline. Oral orciprenaline was used in 23 patients with severe bradyarrhythmia. Two patients responded poorly to it. Saventrine was given sequentially in nine patients. The merits and side effects of both drugs are discussed.
