Abstract
Abstract Experimental data are presented to show that the use of 2-ethyl-6-methyl-3-hydroxypyridine hydrochloride as a geroprotector (i.e. as an agent retarding aging) increased the life-span of short-lived noninbred SHK mice and of inbred C3HA mice. In SHK mice, the increases in the mean and maximum lifespans were due to prolongation of the ‘latent’ survival time, while the mortality rate remained unchanged. In C3HA mice the mortality rate decreased by about 20% beginning with the age of 16 months. Possible methods for the control of aging are discussed.
