Abstract
Studies in the Pyrimidine Series, XXX: Synthesis and Properties of Pyrimidine Sulfoxides, Sulfones, and Nitramines Oxidation of 6-amino-2-methylthio-4-methoxy-(1) and −4-chloropyrimidine (2) led to the formation of the corresponding sulfoxides (6, 8) and sulfones (7, 9). On nitration the nitramines 10 and 11 have been obtained. The reactivity of the methylsulfinyl and methylsulfonyl function in the 6-amino- (6, 7) and 6-nitraminopyrimidines (10, 11) towards various nucleophiles has been investigated and used for the synthesis of new pyrimidine derivatives (12–14, 17, 18, 22, 23). The structures have been proven by UV and NMR spectra and problems of tautomerism are discussed.
