Abstract
Abstract Densities of the binary systems 1-propanol (P) + formamide (F), 1-propanol + N-methylformamide (NMF) and 1-propanol + N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) have been measured at 303.15 K. Densities and excess molar volumes of the systems P+F, P+NMF and P+DMF have been plotted as a function of mole fraction of 1-propanol. The curves of excess molar volumes have been interpreted in terms of such factors as hydrogen bonding between alcohol and amides, dispersion force, steric hindrance and interstitial accomodation of one component into structural holes of another.
