Abstract
Abstract Propylene is a colorless gas and produced in vast quantities by the petrochemical industry throughout the developed world. Propylene is an ever-present component of the atmosphere, with concentrations reaching 8.2 μg/m 3 at remote sites. However, concentrations can exceed greater than 150 μg/m 3 in urban centers. At this time, it is impossible to derive a Toxicity Reference Value (TRV) for the oral route of exposure for propylene. Due to the gaseous nature of the compound, it cannot be administered orally. Data that was obtained from inhalation studies, and as presented in this document, indicated that propylene is not toxic at the levels tested. Additionally, even at concentrations of 10,000 parts per million (ppm) inhalation for 2 years, there was minimal toxicological consequence.
